Conduct problems and callous-unemotional (CU) traits
Children and adolescents with conduct problems (CP), including the DSM-5 categories of oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and conduct disorder (CD), exhibit various forms of antisocial behavior. The essential features of CD is a repetitive and persistent pattern of behavior in which basic rights of others or major age-appropriate norms or rules are violated. ODD is a less severe type of disorder, characterized by a frequent and persistent pattern of angry/irritable mood, argumentative/defiant behavior or vindictiveness. Callous-unemotional (CU) traits designate a particularly problematic subgroup of CP individuals. CU traits, including a lack of empathy, lack of guilt, and low emotional responsiveness, may index psychopathic tendencies in individuals with CP. In the Lunch & Learn Webinar the heterogeneity of CP in children and adolescents will be studied, in particular empathy problems associated with CP.
